Durch die eigenhändigen Zusätze des Lyoner Diakons Florus ist die Herkunft aus der erzbischöflichen Bibliothek von Lyon gesichert.
Due to the handwritten additions by the Lyon deacon Florus, the codex definitely originated from the archbishop's library of Lyon.
Die Handschrift ist sowohl am Anfang als auch am Ende fragmentarisch und durch herausgeschnittene Blätter verstümmelt. Im Text des Breviars wird zwischen dem Gesetzestext und der Auslegung durch eine verschiedene Schriftgröße unterschieden. In der Lex Salica wird dagegen nur die kleinere Schriftgröße verwendet. Verwendungsspuren sind nur auf fol. 127v zu erkennen, wo zweimal ein Nota am Rand angebracht ist. Allerdings ist zu berücksichtigen, dass der rechte Rand durchgehend durch Zerstörung des Pergaments verloren gegangen bzw. nicht lesbar ist. Z.B. befindet sich auf fol. 129r Zeile 30 ein Verweiszeichen, dessen Gegenstück verschwunden ist. Korrekturen von Schreiberhand sind nur selten feststellbar (u.a. fol. 129r interlinear). Dies steht im Gegensatz zu dem mitunter vielfach glossierten römischen Recht. Aber auch innerhalb des Breviars gibt es lange Abschnitte ohne jegliche Glossierungen oder Korrekturen. Vermutlich wurde das römische Recht von Florus sehr selektiv bearbeitet. Insgesamt wirkt der Teil der Lex Salica gedrängter und weniger sorgsam ausgeführt.
The codex is fragmentary both at the beginning and at the end and mutilated due to trimming of the leaves. In the breviary, the law text and its interpretation are written in different sizes. Within the Lex Salica only the smaller size of the script was used. Handling marks are only visible on fol. 127v, where two marginal notes were added, althought one should take into account that the right margin of the codex was destroyed or is now illegible. E.g. on fol. 129r, line 30, there is a reference whose counterpart is lost. There are only a few corrections by the scribal hand (i.a. fol. 129r interlinear). This is in contrast to the - in parts - intensely glossed Roman law. But also within the breviary there are extensive sections without any glosses or corrections. Probably the Roman law was very selectively edited by Florus. Overall, the Lex Salica part seems more compact and less carefully executed.
Ziel der Bibliotheca legum ist es, einen Überblick über das Rechtswissen, welches in der Karolingerzeit verfügbar war, zu geben. Es wurden nicht nur die in der Karolingerzeit geltenden Kodifikationen aufgenommen, sondern alle Bücher des weltlichen Rechts, die im Frankenreich abgeschrieben wurden. Anfänglich war die Datenbank nur für die interne Nutzung am Lehrstuhl vorgesehen. Im Sommer 2012 entstand jedoch die Idee, dieses Hilfsmittel auch der Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung zu stellen. Zu jeder Handschrift ist eine kurze Beschreibung verfügbar, die Auskunft über haltende Institution, Entstehung und Geschichte des Manuskripts, Inhalt sowie weiterführende Literaturangaben/Informationen umfasst. Diese Handschriftenbeschreibungen, welchen den aktuellen Forschungsstand abbilden, wurden in xml nach TEI P5 Standard ausgezeichnet und stehen auch als Downloads zur Verfügung. Aufgefundene Informationen in Form von Literatur,Webseiten, vorhandenen Digitalisaten etc. wurden gesammelt und verlinkt. Auch eigene Texte, welche der Kontextualisierung dienen, sind im Rahmen des Projektes entstanden und integriert. Neben einer umfassenden Projektbibliographie bieten Register zu Orten, genannten Personen und haltenden Institutionen zusätzliche Orientierung.
The Bibliotheca legum aims at presenting an overview of the legal knowledge that existed in the Carolingian period. All "leges" (secular law texts) that were copied during that time are included. The database was originally prepared for use within the History Department only. The idea to make this tool publicly available emerged in summer 2012. A short description containing information on repository, origin and history of the manuscript, contents as well as additional literature etc. is available for each codex. Those are encoded according to the TEI P5 standard and downloadable in xml format. Further resources like existing descriptions, digital images etc. as well as texts and studies that accrued within the context of the project are also included. A comprehensive bibliography and indices on people, places and repositories facilitate further orientation.
