Lex Romana Burgundionum
1. Introduction
The Lex Romana Burgundionum was probably issued in the late second decade of the 6th century under the Burgundian king Gundobad or his son Sigismund I. An almost complete version of the text survied in a single manuscript only (Vatican, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Vat Lat. 7277), others contain fragments or selected titles, usually together with the Lex Burgundionum. The text includes 47 titles, of which the first 36 relate to the Lex Burgundionum. Other sources are mainly the Theodosian Code with the novellae, the pseudo-Pauline sentences, the codices Hermogenianus and Gregorianus, as well as the Institutiones of Gaius and the Codex Euricianus.
