Research of the last decades has shown that the question of what was “the law” in the Carolingian Empire is not to be answered clearly.

The database aims at providing an overview on the legal knowledge that existed in the Francia. To achieve that, the project records all law codes which were copied there during the Carolingian period.

The conventional titles of the law codes very often vary from the ones used in the rubrics and incipits of the manuscripts. To prevent confusion we make use of the titles applied by Mordek in his Bibliotheca (Mordek 1995).
